Nini Ita Nengjom was born in Kom around 1905 and passed into eternal glory on April 11, 2013 in Fuanantui, Kom, Cameroon. She is much loved and will always be remembered by all her children, grand children and great grand children, friends and family.
Nini was baptized in 1916 as an adult according to records from Shisong Catholic Church, Nso. She was one of the quiet but active early Christians the Kom Kingdom and Njinikom valley could still brag of till recent. She was wife to the late Pa Ferdinand Munteh Njang, sister to the late Pa Wallang of Bochain and late Pa Yonghabi of Njinikijem. She was the only remaining aunt to the Wallangs and Yonghabis…and wife to the Muntehs.
She was the mother of Nawain Maria Mbeh of Djichami, the late Nawain Veronica Naboh Njong - Djichami, Mr King Munteh Francis - Fuanantui, the late Nawain Teresia Yein - Djichami.
She is grand mother to Dr George Mbeh and the Mbehs (–Late Blaise), Elias, Lucy, Eli, Patricia, Antony and Lawrence); Grand mother to the Yeins (Peter, Sr Priscilla, Vincent, Olga, Jude, Joan); Grand mother to the Njongs (Jane, Maria, Judith, late Emma Njong and Gerald); grand mother to the Kings (Emma, Late Mado Njang, Jude, Mike, Ita Nawom, Joe, Feli, Immaculate and Eli).
She was great-grand mother to Ita Nindum and siblings, To Bimisimbom and the Abembom, to Peter Glen and bro, to Besem and Bisong, Nelly, Amy, Ansahmbom and many others.
She was great-great-grand mother to Valerie, the only one to be lucky to have seen a great-great-grand mother.
So Nini Ita has seen her children to the fourth generation, a blessing to many of us. She has been an icon of faith which she lived and taught to her children and children’s children. A member of CWA, BORNA MORS, SACRED HEART and Legio Maria.
She was a symbol of generosity to all who came by, offering a sugar cane or cocoyam to those who visited. She was well known for selling ‘kuacoco’ and sugar canes like her late husband. She was also good at herbal medicine and throughout my life I have never seen her visit a hospital.
At age 110, Nini leaves a whole clan to celebrate her life.
We thank God for such a great gift to us.
Fr Joe King (Grand Son)
